We all know that kids aren’t allowed to have cell phones in school in NYC schools right? So, why were 2,500 cell phones given out to junior high kids in some parts of the city?

The Bloomberg administration has been diligently campaigning for over a year to keep cell phones out the schools in NYC, but now:

“The schools chancellor has given out 2,500 of the mobile devices to junior high kids in seven city schools. The phones are part of a mentoring and motivation plan, he says, to improve student performance. The program is the brainchild of a Harvard economist named by Klein to the new unpaid position of Chief Equality Officer.”

“The heart of the plan is to get black and Latino kids to do perform better in school. There’s huge gaps between racial groups in achievement and we’ve got to find a way to combat that,” said DOE Chief Equality Officer Roland Fryer.”

“We are going to move this forward – we’ve got one experiment already going on in our schools and we now are going to put this pilot program in place. It’s called ‘The Million.’”

What do you guys think?

Isn’t it kind of a double standard? I don’t think it has anything to do with ” racial groups”, but that’s just my opinion.

I hope for the children’s sake it works!

MTA has contacted Albany on behalf of their $30 billion plan for the city.  This is their 5 year plan in regards to all the congestion in New York City.

I must admit, the congestion is getting a bit out of hand.

“The MTA hopes much of the funding for the $29.5 billion improvements to the city’s transit system will come from drivers through the congestion pricing scheme now being considered by state lawmakers.”

Imagine, paying to get into the City during rush hours?  London has the same system, but I really don’t know how New Yorkers feel about this.

On the MTA’s wish list:

- Renovation of 44 subways

- Computer driven trains on the # 7 line and some E and F lines

- Extension of Metro North to Penn Station

- 2nd phase of 2nd ave. subway line

Prices for trains and buses are set to go up on March 2nd.

Oh come on, get your mind out of the gutter.  Not a night for Sex, but a night for Sex and the City.

If you’re looking for someplace to unwind after work, then Katwalk Bar and Lounge is the place to be.

“Every Wednesday, it’s “Sex and the City Night,” where folks can not only enjoy a host of episodes past on a giant movie screen, but also themed drink specials like “Carrie Cosmos,” “Miranda Martinis,” “Mr. Big Shots,” and “Sex Wine.” In a seemingly extra-desperate attempt to woo the gals, they promise free appetizers for parties of eight or more, along with prizes and giveaways. “

Hhmmmm…Can I come?

Cafe La Fortuna on the Upper West Side has closed its doors to customers. The cafe on W 71 street was home to many New Yorkers grabbing their morning coffee or those that were just hanging around.

It’s a sad thing because the owner claims he is closing his doors due to high rent and the death of his wife.

Cafe La Fortuna became known for A-list celebrities like Yoko Ono and John Lennon.

We wish him all the best.

It’s been 100 years since the Path Train has been actively serving commuters in the New York area. In honor of this accomplishment, they are giving free rides to those that are traveling to and from New Jersey today up until 11 PM.

“More than 200,000 people ride the PATH each day, but starting next month, they’ll have to shell out an extra quarter as the fare is rising from a $1.50 to $1.75.”

The Path train was established in 1908 and was then taken over by Port Authority in 1962.

If you have to head over to New Jersey, today might be the day to do so…. hey, it’s free
