We all know that kids aren’t allowed to have cell phones in school in NYC schools right? So, why were 2,500 cell phones given out to junior high kids in some parts of the city?
The Bloomberg administration has been diligently campaigning for over a year to keep cell phones out the schools in NYC, but now:
“The schools chancellor has given out 2,500 of the mobile devices to junior high kids in seven city schools. The phones are part of a mentoring and motivation plan, he says, to improve student performance. The program is the brainchild of a Harvard economist named by Klein to the new unpaid position of Chief Equality Officer.”
“The heart of the plan is to get black and Latino kids to do perform better in school. There’s huge gaps between racial groups in achievement and we’ve got to find a way to combat that,” said DOE Chief Equality Officer Roland Fryer.”
“We are going to move this forward – we’ve got one experiment already going on in our schools and we now are going to put this pilot program in place. It’s called ‘The Million.’”
What do you guys think?
Isn’t it kind of a double standard? I don’t think it has anything to do with ” racial groups”, but that’s just my opinion.
I hope for the children’s sake it works!
