Sex or Sects? October 30, 2007

I’m not a huge fan of the news.  I honestly don’t know why.  I feel like sometimes it depresses me to the fullest.  I want to know what’s going on in the world, but at my own expense?  I will be sad and depressed after looking at the news.  With that said, I decided to go for it just this once and look at the news.  First thing I saw?

Is former President Clinton a Sex addict?

I mean, come on!  Is someone not allowed to live their life the way they want to?  Is it really about the sex or is it some sort of separation syndrome?  President Clinton is a great man, he did great things.  However, he is still a MAN.  What man doesn’t like to have sex?  Does it mean because someone becomes President of the United States, their life is over?  Especially their personal life.  So, regardless if he had “sexual relations” with Monica or not, it really doesn’t bother me.  I absolutely love the Clintons and I love Hillary Clinton too, and if she has moved on from that era, why can’t the media?  As a human being, I think Mr. Bill Clinton is entitled to a little pleasure (with his wife of course) and if he as done something that obstructs that, I believe by now that he has paid for it.  His wife and child have paid for it, so please….just leave the man alone.

There are people roaming the streets, killing each other, raping women and molesting chlidren.  To the American Media, put some of your efforts into saving lives instead of destroying it!  Life is too short to focus all of your attention of the former President.  The media has so much power, and sometimes I think that they have nothing to talk about or to even write about, so they just pull it out of a hat?  Random things, thinking irrationally, hurting people and separating people from eachother.  I’m not saying that I’ve agreed with everything that he has done or every decision that he has made.  However, I just want to make it clear, that I really don’t think it’s anyone’s business as to what the man does with his sex life.  Honestly, people should put their two cents into other people’s lives and let’s see how they like it.  I was not there, I did not see him have “sexual relations” with anyone and neither  did you, so why are you acting like you (the media) were there and he had indulged in some sort of unhealthy relationship with YOU!

In reality, it really doesn’t matter and blogging about it may not help either, but I just feel like I should try to put into words the way I feel about this particular situation.

President Clinton understood the working class, and tried for us, them!  He took his presidency very seriously, as he should, but talking about his sexual behaviors is not going to make this world a better place to live in!  I think we have a lot more to worry about, things that are very important and we should really focus our energy on good, great changes!

NYC Pocket Guides & City Loyalty Card October 30, 2007

So, I’ve been working at the NEW YORK CITY POCKET GUIDES for quite some time now and I must say, I love it. The experience that I have gained here has surpassed most of my experiences in the job world.

Located in the infamous Times Square, The NYC Pocket Guides also prints in Japanese. Something that is untouched by any other publication. What sets us apart from others is that we possess the largest theater section possible. You can’t come to New York and not see a Broadway play, that would be like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without peanut butter.

My reason for this blog?

I just wanted to share with everyone the difference between The NYC Pocket Guides and other publications out there.  (that was Friday)

Now it’s Monday, and I’m happy to be here, but can I say that my weekends aren’t weekends anymore.  I rush home on Fridays, go straight to dance class.  Teach, get home like 12ish, then I wake up on Saturday and go to dance class again for 10 am.  I get home at 5pm.  Amazingg…Sundays are my only “me” days, and you know what; it’s not really, because I have to do so much stuff.

Today, I’m working on City Loyalty stuff.  City Loyalty Card is great because it will really take off.  We are still working on it, but it’s coming along great.  We finally got our media kits and they look great.  I’m kind of disappointed though, because I thought it would be all cardboard, but where there’s a will, there’s a way!  We are almost in launch phase.  We can now actually sign up merchants and members.  This is a program geared for New Yorkers.  If you want to save money while living or traveling in and out of NYC then this is the card for you.  There’s  nothing like it on the market, is there?  Yes, I’m sure there are Loyalty Cards, but I have yet to come across something like this.  I think it’s awesome and not because I am part of this, but because it will actually work in your advantage.  I know a lot about this product because I have started it from scratch.  I have written all of the content and the thing about this card that is so unique, is that it can be used anywhere and by anyone.  When going to get lunch, when going to the carwash, when going groceries, eating out, partying, clubing, getting haircuts, absolutely everything.  Also, anyone can sell this card.  Just log on to City Loyalty Card for more information.  It’s a great way to make extra money!

NYC Pocket and City Loyalty Card, great things will happen!

Sprint Mogul Vs. Sprint Treo October 26, 2007

HTC Mogul PPC-6800 Smartphone (Sprint)

I absolutely love the Mogul, from Sprint. The thing is; I don’t really know what I love about it. I know I like the way it looks, I like the way it slides to the side, and not up. It has some pretty cool features. I’m still waiting to get a Mogul; which I can’t afford right now!

What I can say is that I’ve had the Sprint Treo, and for me it sucked. I think phones are a luck thing with people in general. So I got the Treo for $350 from Sprint and proceeded to hook it up. On the first day, it froze like 3 times. Then it would shut of randomly. When I was on a call it would freeze or would allow me to answer the call when I selected yes. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the person that has that Treo now LOVES it. So that’s what I’m saying; phones are a luck thing. One fabulous thing about the Treo is that the internet is AMAZINNNGGG. It’s so fast, it’s unbelievable. I hope the Mogul is like that too, or else after having the Treo, I will be somewhat disappointed. Right now, I have a Katana, which is an okay phone, it’s not a smartphone! I also have a Sidekick, which is also okay. However, I’m responsible for paying 2 phone bills which is not cool. All I want is to find a great phone that allows me to do what I do on my Katana and Sidekick in one. Is that too much to ask for? Honestly! If it’s not one thing, it’s the other and I’m really sick of these phone companies saying this and that about phones and when you get it in your hand, it’s the total opposite.

Sprint has worked out quite well for me though. I used to have Nextel, I basically threw my phone everyday against the wall. Sprint has really made my days better with their service and now I hope when I get the Mogul (which I’m supposed to get this week-end) I’m not disappointed.

Your comments would be great and I would love to hear your feedbacks about the Mogul.

Help!!

JIM JONES- Wachu kno about dat? October 25, 2007

I was not alive when this tragedy took place, but I have certainly heard and read about it on a first hand basis.  Cult leaders, gotta wonder about them sometimes.  This man, a preacher from California, born in Indiana decided, that due to the American Governments’ scrutiny against him; will moved to a random country in South America.  This Country is Guyana- about the size of Idaho and located on the Northern coast of South America.  It is gently nestled in between recognized countries like Venezuela, Brazil and Surinam.  The forests’ alone in Guyana covers almost 80% of the land.

Now some History about this country.

When the English went on their rampant rage to discover, divide and conquer everything in the world, Guyana was one of their discoveries.  While their were people living there already, the English totally ignored them.  Many citizens from other countries were brought into Guyana as “indentured laborers” to look and fend for gold (Guyana is rich in gold, sugar cane, boxite, rice, etc.).  These indentured laborers or slaves as they are known as today, came from all over the world; but mainly from India, Africa and China.  These poor people were told that a better life awaits them in a new tropical land that is rich in minerals.  These were the poorer people so they took the bait in search for a better life for themselves and their families.  Originally, American Indians had already found their habitat and were living freely in the jungles.

In 1977 Jones and many of his followers relocated to Guyana to avoid compilcations with the American Government.  He named the town Jonestown.  He felt that he would be able to practice freely and since he never had any real training in theology or even religion, he figured he would wing it.

I mean, if you were doing something that is unlawful, why wouldn’t you want to go someplace far and secluded where no one would interrupt you?  I have to admit, the man had common sense; but he was Psychologically challenged in so many ways.

In 1978, some of his cult followers complained to the American Government, requesting an investigation of Mr. Jones.  They felt like people were being brainwashed and they were all living a concentration camp lifestyle.  In November of 1978, California Congressman Leo Ryan visited Guyana in hopes of some answers.  When his life was threatened the first day there, he decided to return to California with others that wanted to leave Jonestown.  While boarding his plane, Mr. Ryan was shot along with four others by followers and security guards of Jim Jones.

After Ryan’s death, Jones realized that that would propell a mass investigation by the American Government against him and his followers.  On November 18 of 1978, Jones encouraged over 900 of his followers to drink and be merry.  What they drank?  Kool-Aid mixed with Cyanide.  They were all dead within minutes.  Jones apparently shot himself in the head.  A Guyanese coroner indicated that hundreds of the bodies showed evidence of needle marks, and sedatives were also found in their systems; among other things.  Just like that, it ended.

Some people are just sick in the head; perhaps I shouldn’t say it that way, but how else am I supposed to put it?  Innocent people, 912 of them to be axact, dead in a matter of minutes.  We can’t change the past, we just have to learn from it, but I feel like instead of learning- we keep on repeating ourselves, repeating history!

Darfur–Why can’t we help them? October 25, 2007

What’s going in Darfur?  I mean, I know what’s going on, but it’s so sad to know that our hand are tied.  Sometimes I wish I had the power to just go there, put up a wall and let the innocent leave.  World Peace seems like cheesy thing to wish for, but deep down inside, if I really had one wish, it would be for “world peace.”  The UN has been trying to set things up and blah, blah, blah…..why did it take this long?  Time and time again, this has happened all over the world.  Will we not ever learn?  Killing each cother, what do we gain from that?  What did we ever gain from that in the past?  Imagine, for two years, these people seeking power have greatly demolished their own land and people, driving almost two million citizens out of their homes, keeping them in concentration camps and torturing them.  Death, starvation, disease, murder; these are not just words, it’s actually happening in real life!  Understand that this is a problem, understand that innocent people are being killed, understand that WE can help! Mass raping of women and children, riots, starvation; just to name a few.  This is nothing new, we have read, heard, and some of us have even seen this in the past.  History repeated, actually!   The United States can help, we should be recognizing our role as human rights activists’.  No one will ever try to disobey!  If anyone can help, and hurt, it’s the US.

Help the women, men, and children of Darfur America!  All of them, even the corrupted ones, “for they know not what they do.”

‘F’ Train culture :-) October 24, 2007

New York!!!  A wonderful place, until you hop on the train.  Particularly the ‘F’.  What a train ride.  I mean at first, it’s all coffe collata, then the weirdos come out, about 1 week after.

I’ve been taking the trains for a while now, years actually, and the F train culture is somewhat alluring.  Here’s what happens on my train ride from Queens to Manhattan.

*This is a Manhattan bound F train, next stop, 169th street, please stand clear of the closing doors, DING–DONG*

-Okay lady, did you not hear the man?  Stand clear of the closing doors, not stand clearly in between the doors!

-Listen woman with the extremely long toenails.  Did it ever occur to you that perhaps you should cut your toenails?  Guess not, because week after week, your toenails are still tremendously long.  for Pete’s sake, cut-em’.

-Man with the stinky breath….please….I beg you…please stop talking to your friend accross the train.  Why did your friend not sit with you, that way you can share your non-brushed breath with him instead of the entire train car?

-To you …man….that vomitted on the train floor!  How unmannerly of you.  Thank god you didn’t vomit on me!  Instead, you proceeded to walk to the door, (which opened @ lexington) ignored the entire population on the train, bent down and vomitted in the train.  Unbelievable!  If you had to vomit, why didn’t you just get off?  Instead, you let the vomit run, up and down the aisles and acted like nothing happened!  How considerate of you? Because early in the morning, everyone wants to smell, or better yet, sit in human vomit!

‘F’ train culture, gotta hate it, but you certainly can’t live without it….how the hell else would you get to work?

5 tips to keeping your cat healthy! October 24, 2007

photo-56.jpg
My cat’s name is Mysti. She is the ultimate love of my life and even if she doesn’t understand the love that we share, at least she brings me joy every time I look at her or even think about her. So 5 things you can do to keep your cat healthy (according to my uncle; who’s a vet)?

1. Even though they are super independent, they still need love! Always love them no matter what they do (Mysti poops on my rug, all the time; well everyday to be exact). I think she does this because no one is ever at home, so she needs attention. It’s some kind of behavioral dysfunction! I just kiss her and clean it up. What else can I do?

2. Watch what food you feed them. Cats are complicated (according to my uncle). They need to be trained to eat dry food from the beginning. Wet food is kind of bad for their intestines. Mysti eats Science Diet and she loves it. It keeps her weight down, and gives her energy.

3. Make sure their surroundings are clean. Random things on the floor can cause complications if ingested. Make sure there are no strings lying around. Cats may love to play with strings, but if you see what it can do to them, you will always make sure that you are careful…It can actually wrap around their intestines and strangle them. So, be careful and clean!

4. Get them neutered. I know, it’s harsh and Mysti has not yet forgiven me for putting her through this traumatic ordeal (and it’s been 3 years). She won’t even get into or even near my car. However, it’s best for them. It’s like giving your child their shots. When a cat is not neutered, (according to my uncle) there can be complications as they get older. Neutering prevents cancer. I think that’s all you need to hear :-)

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_the_feline_spay.html

5. Keep them clean. Cats hate to take a shower. it’s innate, they absolutely hate water. Hate it….I repeat, HATE IT. Mysti cleans herself, like all cats, but if you can get them groomed, that would be great. Clip their claws, just enough. Never clip down to the pink area, it hurts them. Get their teeth cleaned, if not, they run the risk of getting mouth/gum cancer. If you can’t get them groomed, do it yourself. Mysti is a long-haired domestic and she is really fluffy. People says she’s fat, which really hurts me, a lot, but she’s just really fluffy and she can’t help it. So, we comb her hair often, just to ensure that she clean, and not hot.

I’m positive that there are a million more reasons why you should pay close attention to your feline friend, but these are the things I do on a daily basis and according to her doctor, Mysti is as healthy as can be. She’s three years old and all she does is eat, poop, pee, and play….all day long….and that’s good enough for me, as long as she’s happy!!!

Friday….what a wonderful word! October 20, 2007

Friday happens to be a wonderful day for me. No! Not because it means that tomorrow is Saturday, but because when I’m done working, I get to hop on the train (another day we shall get into ‘trains’) for an hour to rush home to go to a place I love most. I do not necessarily love the physical “place”, more importantly, I love what I do at this place….DANCE and teach dance. When I was 5 years old, my aunt enrolled me to dance, Indian style. I hated it! I was the youngest there and my teacher would hit me on a regular basis because even though I’m 5, I should be able to keep up with 16 year olds….hmp. I loved him anyway. He taught me a lot (God rest his sole). For 22 years, dance has been my outlet to many things; good and bad. Mostly, it gives me peace, something that I’ve struggled for years to achieve with my inner self. It’s a battle I’m always losing. Sometimes when I dance, I feel like no one else is there, no one can hurt me,somah-001.jpg no one can hurt me. I love that feeling! I couldn’t imagine doing anything else in my spare time. It’s what I do all weekend long, then I go back to the real world on Monday :-) . I participated in my first show when I was 5 years old. Funny enough, I was left in the care of my dad (my mom had left me to “go seek a better life”) who loved the bottle (at the time). I played baby Krishna (Hindu God), it was awesome! However, looking in the audience, I saw no one familiar. I basically hitched a ride home, by myself. Funny thing though, that one event had taught me to be independent. So from age 5, I became a different Somah. I think up to now, I can’t find the “real” me. Don’t get me wrong, I know who and what I am, it’s just that I feel like that person is lost. All because of tragic and uncontrollable events. I got home, somehow, and saw my dad looking out the window, not caring how I got home. I actually had really long hair and there was a black ribbon stuck in it. So I chopped it all off and that was the end of my long hair. No one noticed anyway. That was the day all innocence left me! I was a grown up now. Was I happy? No! But I accepted it as my destiny, but not peacefully!
